UIMT will start the year as the highest rated public university by the American Mock Trial Association, rated fifth in the nation. They start the season with six teams that will compete in ten invitational tournaments before competing in the regional tournaments in early February. The teams will travel to Minneapolis, Louisville, Washington D.C., Champagne, and New York City among other in-state tournaments.

The organization will try to re-create history as they try to improve upon their 4th place finish last year at the National Championship. After finishing in 4th place in 2001, UIMT won the National Championship the following two years.
